I had a private moment of jubilation the other day after I had successfully repaired my bicycle. Another item checked from my "bucket list" (things to do before I "kick the bucket"). I wasn't even bummed when I read the following on the net. Sure it may have been an easy repair, but it was my repair.
- The rear derailleur looks more complicated, but the only additional complication is that the rear derailleur also contains the arm with the spring-loaded pulleys, that takes up the slack as the chain goes to smaller sprockets.
I don't celebrate birthdays, but if I could have found one, I would have lit and placed a candle in my blueberry muffin. The iced tea tasted sweeter than usual. A proper victory toast. There was no one around to burst my bubble. However, the background babble of the TV soon came into clear focus with the announcement that a 56 year old woman had swum the Atlantic.
Jennifer Figge started in Cape Verde off the coast of Africa and arrived at Trinidad, off the coast of Venezuela 24 days later, a distance of some 2,700 miles. Figge swam behind a catamaran, protected from sharks by a 20-foot by 13-foot cage that rested partly below the water. Some days the captain decided when it was too dangerous for Figge to swim. That was any time the crew couldn't see her because of the waves. "Whales literally came up to her," he said. "She swam with dolphins some days."
As expected, people soon crawled out of their nests to put her down. "Some of the more sensational stories made it sound like she got in the water at point A and never stopped swimming, like Nemo, until she got to Trinidad," her manager, David Higden told reporters. "That wasn't the case, and it never was supposed to be the case".
I like this lady. On Trinidad, she attended a steel-drum festival, where she experienced sensory overload, after all those days of seeing nothing but water and blue sky. The plan is for her to sail to Tobabo on Wednesday, and then swim back to Trinidad.
Jennifer supposedly said: "'This is about the romance, not the science". She just loves to be in the water. I wonder if she has a profile on eHarmony?

Fortune has allowed me to come full circle and return to my earlier interest in photography. I am at that age were some weight loss would be beneficial. I certainly don't believe all photographers need to starve, but my initial goals are realistic, if not humble. The industry has changed tremendously, but the possibilities are unlimited. I am grateful that my parents' gave me a generic name. It's allowed me to explore numerous paths unhindered.
